The Easy No Bunch Ribbed Crochet Beanie pattern is a ribbed crochet beanie designed with a completely flat top and looks like knit! This pattern is made up of mostly HDC (half double crochet) stitches and is worked sideways. To create a clean, completely flat top, I utilized a few different techniques: short rows, yarn over slip stitches, and an optional mattress stitch. There’s a picture guide for the short rows and a video guide for the seaming! Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn new, but easy crochet skills, or an expert looking for a simple, but fun and repeatable new pattern, you’ve come to the right place!
Gauge: 14 HDC 8 rows = 4x4 square
Supplies needed: Worsted weight yarn that meets gauge (I use Heartland from Lion Brand in this pattern), 6mm crochet hook, measuring tape, stitch markers, scissors, tapestry needle
Approximate grams of yarn needed for each size:
XS/S - 60g
S/M - 75g
M/L - 90g
L/XL - 105g
Sizes measured flat (not stretched and not brimmed):
XS/S: Width - 20 inches, Length - 9 inches
S/M: Width - 21 inches, Length - 10 inches
M/L: Width - 22 inches, Length - 11 inches
L/XL: Width - 23 inches, Length - 12 inches
The length of the beanie is adjustable!
This ribbed beanie is stretchy and will stretch out with wear. With this in mind, choose a size 0.5-2 inches smaller than your actual head size based on your preferred fit.
This beanie usually takes me 3-4 hours to complete. Please note that I crochet on the faster side, so time spent will vary from person to person!
